Solberg, Donald "Ike"

Donald (Ike) Solberg, age 82, of Poy Sippi, WI, passed away on Saturday, January 19th, 2013 at his residence after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Kaukauna, WI, on February 4, 1930, a son of the late Isaac and Margaret (Derricks) Solberg.

Donald graduated from Kaukuana High School. On January 5, 1954 he married Josephine Van Strallen in Kaukauna. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2005.

Donald was a bricklayer and mason. He always thought his bricklaying and fireplaces were a work of art. He loved to design them his way. He loved fishing and was an avid fisherman. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting. He loved to listed to traditional country and bluegrass music. Donald was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He served in the 27th Regiment, 25th Division, Company E and had attained the rank of Sergeant.

Survivors include his Children: James (Liz) Solberg, West Bend, WI; Thomas Solberg, West Bend, WI; Cynthia Solberg, South Milwaukee, WI; Brenda (Brian) Neils, Beaver Dam, WI; Brian Solberg, Poy Sippi, WI; Sandra (Roger) Kubisiak, Muskego, WI; Grandchildren: Matthew Neils; April Neils; Amanda Horning; Ashley Horning; Brothers & Sisters: Gerald Solberg, Weyauwega, WI; Liz Kilishek, Forest Jct., WI; Marge Bigford, Dale, WI; Daniel (Ada Shilts) Solberg, Weyauwega, WI; Richard (Marge) Solberg, Little Chute, WI; Ronald (Ruth) Solberg, Hortonville, WI; John Solberg, Weyauwega, WI; Raymond (Marlene) Solberg, Appleton, WI; Carol (Bob) Romportl, Hortonville, WI; Vincent (girlfriend - Sandy) Solberg, Weyauwega, WI and Robert (Julie Stickney) Solberg, Kaukauna, WI, and Debra Solberg, Appleton, WI. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by an infant son, Donald Edward, sisters-in-law, Gloria Solberg and Connie Solberg and a brother-in-law, Richard Kilishek.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Poy Sippi at 1 PM on Thursday, January 24th, 2013, with Father Jerome Taddy, officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Weyauwega later this spring. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 11 AM until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in the name of Donald Solberg.
