Duane W. Rhode
Age 83 of New London, died on Saturday morning, March 9, 2013, at Appleton Medical Center with family by his side.
Duane was born on August 10, 1929, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, son of Herman Frank and Doris (Smith) Rhode. On May 9, 1953, Duane married Louise Butzin at Grace Lutheran Church in Berlin, Wisconsin. Together they shared 59 years. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in Dale, Wisconsin until 1966 when they purchased a farm in New London. During his farming years, Duane worked for the New London Coop and then for the Larson Coop. He retired from both in 1992.
Duane enjoyed playing cards especially Sheepshead, traveling, visiting at family reunions, and attending the tractor pulls.
He is survived by his wife, Louise; children, Jean (John) Bohl, Donna (James) Young, Richard (Sandy Lopas) Rhode, Beverly (Steven) Riehl and Dennis Rhode; brothers, Dale Rhode and Daniel (Peggy) Rhode; 17 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Duane is preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald; brother, Darold Rhode; sister, Diana Meyer; and infant sister, Dephina.
The funeral service for Duane will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, N926 Dale Ave., Dale, with Rev. William Finn officiating. Family and friends may call at the church Monday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again directly at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Township of Caledonia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staffs at Appleton Medical Center, New London Family Medical Center, as well as to the neighbors and friends who offered the family support through the many thoughts and prayers.
