Clifton, Elnora "Toots"

Elnora "Toots" Clifton, age 92 years, of Manawa passed away Wednesday morning, July 13, 2011 at Manawa Community Nursing Center.

The former Elnora Elva Splitt was born April 30, 1919 in the Town of Union, Waupaca County, to Herman and Erna (Genskow) Splitt. As a young woman she moved to Chicago and in the late 1930's was united in marriage to Harry Clifton in Chicago, IL. Toots worked in assembly for Revere Company, later known as 3M, for eighteen years. The couple also owned and operated Cliff's Snack Shop in Chicago for several years. But she was always most proud of being a homemaker and a loving wife and mother.

In her younger years, Toots was involved in the PTA and helped out with the Boy Scouts. She is a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Manawa, where she was active with the Ladies Aide for some time. Toots enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Gracious Gardeners Club in Manawa. She also loved to cook and host large family get togethers at her little home on the pond in Manawa.

Survivors include two sons, Leroy N. Clifton of Naperville, IL. and Douglas G. (Ruth) Clifton of Manawa. There are 6 grandchildren; Lorri (Tony) Duerst, Douglas Clifton, Vicki (Robert) Swicegood, Scott Beutler, Dawn Beutler, and Keith Clifton. There are 8 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. There is a brother, Jerry (Rose) Splitt of Florida, and two sisters, Darlene Toonen of Little Chute & Arla (Forest) Kreklow of Manawa. She is further survived by her best friend, Lillian Obilia of Waupaca, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Elnora is preceded in death by her husband, Harry in 1979, a son, Michael, a daughter, Sharon Beutler, a daughter-in-law, Rita Clifton, and two sisters, Rosetta Splitt & Deloris Beil. The family wishes to especially thank all the nurses and staff at Manawa Community Nursing Center for the special care given to Toots.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 16th at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 157 N. Bridge St., Manawa, with Rev. Tom Theama officiating. Burial will be on Monday at 2:00 PM at Fairmount Hills in Willow Springs, IL. Friends may call on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service, BOTH days at the church. The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, is assisting the family.
