What makes a man "rich"? If a man is considered "rich" because of the possessions he has accumulated and the titles he has attained in his lifetime then Erv was not a "rich" man. Yet Erv was a "rich" man. He said it himself when asked about his life: "I could have been a "rich" man if I had not raised six kids but then I wouldn't be the "rich" man that I am." He realized that nothing is more priceless than the people in life that you are blessed with. What mattered most to him was not what he could accumulate for himself but what he could do to ensure that those he loved were taken care of. The only titles that mattered to him were those of "son", "brother", "husband", "father", "grandpa" and "friend". What makes a man "rich"? Based on Erv's legacy it is living a selfless life for the sake of others. Erv was a rich man because his life enriched others…just ask those who truly new him. Words cannot begin to express how much he is loved and will be missed by all whose lives he has made rich. May each who knew Erv honor the legacy of his life by enriching others…just as he did.
A graveside service for Erv will be held on Friday, April 6 (Good Friday), 2012, 3 p.m. at St. Mary Cemetery on Racine Street in the Town of Menasha.
