Joyce S. Kiekhaefer, age 85 died on March 21, 2013.
She was born April 8, 1927, in Mount Horeb, WI, to Albert S. Lukken and (Grace) Mable Offerdahl. When Joyce was 8, her mother died from burns in a tragic fire. Joyce's godmother and aunt, Anna Bang, raised Joyce until she graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1945. As a young woman Joyce lived and worked in Middleton and Madison. She married Herbert F. Kiekhaefer on May 1, 1948. After Herb's graduation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the couple moved to Appleton, WI, where they raised their family and lived for over 50 years before moving to Middleton in 2002.
Joyce was first and foremost a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was a woman of many talents always active in her church communities as Sunday school teacher, Circle Leader, serving funeral dinners, using her floral decorating talents in the church entry, and donating framed counted-cross stitch pieces of sacred passages and images to the West Middleton Lutheran Church. Her community benefited from her calling Bingo at the Appleton Senior Center for many years. She created the Fox Valley Celiacs Support Group (Celiac Sprue Association Chapter 26) and served as its President for many years. Future generations will appreciate the genealogical research she did for the Ellestad-Offerdahl and Winter families. She created and had illustrated her personal cookbook called "Food for Body and Soul", a collection of humorous but wise sayings and tried and true family recipes to share with family and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Milton A. Lukken; and newborn twin sons and daughter. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Herbert F. Kiekhaefer; daughter, Jane L. Kopp (Mark) of Middleton; son, John H. Kiekhaefer of Bartlett, IL; daughter, Ann M.White (Rick) of Raleigh, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at WEST MIDDLETON LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3763 Pioneer Rd. Verona WI, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, with the Reverend Allen Wahl presiding with a lunch to follow at the church.
