Lain, Judith Laffin

Left this life on Friday, February 28, 2014. She was born on January 1, 1940 in Wausau, WI. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Hunt) Laffin. She grew up on a dairy farm and attended a one room school house.

Judie graduated from Wausau High School and then went to Lincoln County Teacher's College. She was an Elementary and Special Education Teacher in Merrill. She also worked with people with disabilities in Madison, Reedsburg, Oshkosh and Appleton. As the co-founder of Employ Ability, Judie promoted independence in people through technology.

Judie enjoyed crafts, sewing, reading, bird watching and gardening. She was proud of her Irish roots and realized her lifelong dream of seeing Ireland in 2012.

Judie was loved immensely by her husband James Lain, and her daughters: Connie Osness, Teri (Mark) Kolosso and Lori Van Gompel. Gran was adored by her grandchildren: Sheyanne Sheltrow (Chris Brown), Shawn Sheltrow (Ann Vanevenhoven), Lieah Van Gompel (Travis Wilder), Karie Van Gompel and Tony Van Gompel. She will be missed by her 2 great granddaughters: Alexis Sheltrow and Juliana Brown.

Judie also leaves behind three sisters: Audrey (Alfred) Hoppe (Wausau), Arletta (Jim) Jahnke (Pelican Lake) and Marchelle Laffin (Larry Krom) (Spring Green) and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:30 AM Saturday, March 8, 2014 at First English Lutheran Church, 326 E. North Street, Appleton, with Rev. Jeff Tengesdal officiating. Judie's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 11:15 AM

We would like to thank Drs. Tretinyak and Lewandowski, and AMC Nurses Randy and Joy for their compassionate care. A special thank you goes to Therese Evers for her care of Judie and her family.
