Schmidt, Lucina A.

Lucina A. Schmidt, Kaukauna, age 88, died Saturday September 21, 2013. She was born June 24, 1925 in Kaukauna to the late John and Elizabeth (Klein) Haen. On July 12, 1945 Lucina married Norbert Schmidt in a double ceremony with Paul and Helen Lamers. He preceded her in death August 1, 2013.

Lucina taught various grades throughout the years, starting with her favorite, a one room school house. She later taught at St. Mary and Nicolet Schools. Lucina's passion was to teach children to read. She loved to sing and dance and belonged to the choir at St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish, where she was a member. Lucina wrote poems and school plays. She was an excellent cook whose cookies and apple pies are warmly remembered. Lucina cherished time spent with her family, especially enjoying the holidays. The needs of others were always her priority, and her smile brought joy to many.

Lucina is survived by her children: Jean (Charles) Ertl, San Diego, CA; Mary Novak, Philadelphia, PA; Anne (Jeffrey) Jaekels, Green Bay; and Lisa (Andrew) Hayes, Fond du Lac; grandchildren: John (Kimberly), Jeremy (Cassandra), Joshua (Jeanine) and Angela (James); Sarah; Jessica (Theran), Jennifer (Ben), Lizzie (Andrew) and Jacqueline; Isaac and Noah; 11 great grandchildren (and expecting 2 more); siblings: Irene Kempen, Helen Lamers and Bob (Frances) Haen; and sister and brothers-in-law: Pat (Fred) Haen-Schuette and Cyril Klister. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Norbert, Lucina was preceded in death by her siblings: Victor (Ethel), Leo (Gladys) and Jack Haen, Rita Hartzeim and Martha Klister; and brothers-in-law: Merlin Kempen and Paul Lamers; and a granddaughter: Lauren Novak.

Visitation will be held Wednesday October 2, 2013 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH - ST. MARY CHURCH (119 W. 7th St. Kaukauna) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Jerry Pastors will officiate. Committal Allouez Catholic Cemetery. To sign the guest book, please visit
