Ver Kuilen, Marie Clarissa
Marie Clarissa Ver Kuilen, age 94 of De Pere (Van's Valley) passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday morning March 26, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 29, 1918 in Greenleaf to the late John and Henrietta (Coenen) Pitsch. She married Patrick Henry Schadrie, and he preceded her in death. She then married George Ver Kuilen, and they were married 64 years before he preceded her in death in May of 2011. Marie was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she taught Religious Education for over 30 years and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She also sang in the choir for many years. Marie was very dedicated to her parish in countless ways. She was an avid card player, especially Rummy and Sheepshead, and known as the "Scrabble Queen" to her family, Marie loved being with family and friends. She had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother, and would pray the Holy Rosary several times a day.
In her young years she attended the Dominican Convent in Racine as a Novice. Once leaving there she spent time devoting herself to caring for other people's children as a Nanny and home care servant. Her life went on to owning her own street-side popcorn stand which she managed for a few years. After all of the children were born she went to work at VanGheem's Gas Station and Grocery Store in Onieda.
She is survived by her 13 children; Janice (Robert) Anderson, Gary (Carol) Schadrie, Patrick (Anna) Schadrie, James (Connie) Ver Kuilen, Diane Jacobson, Carol (Jack) Konkle, Bonita (Bob) Calmes, David (Geri) Ver Kuilen, Mary (Rich) Zenisek, John (Mary Jo) Ver Kuilen, Margaret (Rich) Storey, Ted (Beth) Ver Kuilen, and Roseann (Jerry) Olson. Marie is further survived by her 44 grandchildren, 82 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson, as well as her loving sisters; Martha DeCleene, Agnes Johnson, numerous nieces, nephews and her church family. Preceding her in death were her first husband Patrick Schadrie, and daughter JoAnne, and her husband George Ver Kuilen. Marie's passing was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Raymond Pitsch, two sisters, Rita Bodde and ILeta Swinton. Her great grandson, Wiley James Ver Kuilen, and great-great grandson, Domanick Schadrie who also preceded her in death. Friends and family may call at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church N5589 Cty Rd. E, De Pere on Monday April 1, 2013 after 4pm with a parish prayer service at 7pm to bring the evening to a close. Visitation will continue at the church after 9am Tuesday, April 2nd followed with the Mass and Celebration of Life and Christian Burial at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at 11am. Fr. John C. Katamba will be officiating.
