Marvin Spielbauer Obituary

Spielbauer, Marvin M.

Marvin M. Spielbauer, "Speed", of Neenah, age 82, passed away in his sleep at home on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. He was born June 28, 1934 in South Milwaukee, WI, son of the late Leo and Mary (Vander Loop) Spielbauer.

Marvin married Ruth Kubasta on September 10, 1955. He was employed as a meat cutter with Boehm's Market for many years and then for Stani's and Copps. Marv enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards but his favorite times were those spent with family.

Marv was an involved member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church where he ushered, participated in Eucharistic Adoration and brought Communion to the homebound and care facilities. He was honored as a 3rd Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and was also very active with the Boys' and Girls' Brigade for many years spending a lot of time at Camp Onaway.

Marv is survived by Ruth, his wife of 61 years; six children: Kathryn (Steve) Verboomen, Jane (Terry) Clayborne, Ann (Jack) Mika, Tom (Hilde) Spielbauer, Jim Spielbauer, Peter (Lupe) Spielbauer; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his siblings and in-laws: Sister Mary Lee, Carol Konetzke, LeRoy (Sandy) Spielbauer, Mary Ellen Spielbauer, Jackie Spielbauer and Mary Spielbauer; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marv was preceded in death by his brothers: Norm, Edgar, Robert, Donald and Richard; sister-in-law, Esther; brother-in-law, Jim Konetzke; his twin brothers, Michael and John who died shortly after birth; and a very good friend, Don Ashley.

The Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael I. Ingold officiating. The visitation will be held at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service held at 6:45 PM. Visitation will be again at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in his name.

To Ruth and Family, you may not remember me. I worked with Speed at Boehm's, when I was 16, it was my first job. Speed was kind of a father figure to me. He was always very kind, fun to be around and always had a smile! I will never forget him. May I offer you my deepest sympthay and condolences!

Ruth and family:
We are very sorry to hear of your loss of Marv.
He was a very compassionate and thoughtful person.
One of my fondest memories of Marv "speed" was that he was so caring at a Knights of Columbus meeting when he was grand knight that he led a prayer for my mother after her recent death. I often thought of that when I saw Marv and was always appreciative. My mother, Margaret, died 49 years ago today. March 4th.

Marv will be sorely missed by our parish family where he made such a difference with his smile and service, from communion calls to KofC, brat fries, etc. Our thoughts and prayers to all the Spielbauers.

So sorry. Marv was a terrific neighbor to my Mom, Katherine Hanson. He would bring her communion, venison, and snowblow her driveway. He especially liked her Daffodils in the Spring. Caroline Hanson Nelson.

It is with sincere sympathy that I write this -- Marvin was a great cousin. Due to my stroke and losing my hubby, Jack, I haven't been at the VanderLoop reunions for several years but lots of thoughts of everyone - LeRoy was closest in age, but all of Aunt Mary's and Uncle Leo's family were/are special.

Do know that I truly care and will keep you in my prayers and thoughts.

So sorry to hear of Speed's passing. I worked for him delivering groceries at Boehm's Market, when I was in high school. Working with him was SO MUCH FUN. I believe he even took me out for my first "legal" beer.

He was a dear man.....always full of laughs and always willing to help someone out.

To this day, I still tell stories of working with Speed.

He will be missed by everyone!!

Speed worked for my father Ralph Larson at Boehm's Market for many years. As a pre teen and teen I worked with him side by side. He was great and very helpful. We also hunted and fished together on many occasions. While life takes everyone in deferent directions, we always talked at least once a year on the phone about how everyone was doing and our success at hunting. We did that last in Dec 2016. In that call he told me my father was like a second father to him. I cherish that thought especially
now. I will miss him dearly. Ron Larson, Fredericksburg, Va

The Lord has called one of the best home.
Besides his family, he will be missed by
so many people whose lives he touched.
Rest in peace, Marv. Love you.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Marv came to Winnebago Mental Health Institute for many a years and through the Knights of Columbus sponsored lots of BINGO parties and pizza parties with our children. During his last party here last fall; to celebrate his 'retirement'...... when the kids got BINGO they were instructed to yell "MARV" instead. I knew he got a kick out of that and so did the kids!
Thanks for all the great times and memories, you will be missed Marv.
