Together they raised eight children and farmed on his father-in-law's farm in the Town of Center, rural Black Creek. Orv was born and raised in the city, but developed a love for farming on his grandparents farm and as a farmhand on a local farm after the farmer lost his arm in an accident. Orv was also very active with the Outagamie County Farm Bureau, the former Center Valley Cooperative. Orville was a complete Wisconsin sports fan, Packers, Badgers, Brewers, and Bucks and seldom missed a game on the television, would never turn down a game of sheepshead, and was an avid bowler in his younger days.
