Luebke, Verona Clara

Verona Luebke, age 103, formerly of Combined Locks, died December 30, 2012 at Colony Oaks Care Center in Appleton. She was born on December 23, 1909 to the late John and Louise (Dalke) Krueger in the Township of Black Creek. On December 23, 1927, she married Erich Luebke. They lived in Appleton until 1960. They were married 71 years before Erich died on May 11, 1999.

Verona loved to sew, crochet and knit. She began sewing when she was very young and carried her talent into adult life. She worked in alterations department for Pranges before retiring. She was an avid gardener and their yard showed how much she loved flowers with the many varieties grown there.

In the 1970's, Verona, along with daughter Lois, opened a ceramic studio called "LoVe Ceramics" in the Luebke's basement. When their classes stopped, Verona went on to make porcelain dolls like the one she had as a child and hand made all of the doll's clothes. At the age of 97, she finished her last doll. Family and friends cherish these beautiful creations.

Verona was an active member of St. John United Church of Christ in Appleton and the oldest member of the congregation. She was member of Women's Missionary Guild for over 60 years.

She is survived by daughters; June Bastian, Brillion and Lois Herrmann, Appleton, son in law, Robert Golden, Appleton, ten grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 21 great great grandchildren, one step great grandchild, and six step great great grandchildren. Verona is further survived by sisters; Leona Plamann, Pauline Buss and Verla Koerner.

She was preceded in death by children; infant twins, Roman and Ramona and daughter, Jean Golden, sons in law; Robert Herrmann and Roy Bastian, brothers; Lawrence, John, Carl (Naomi), Lloyd (Lorraine) Krueger, sisters; Erma (Arnold) Tiedt, Vera (Ed Wichman, Irwin) Herzfeldt, and Louise (Robert) Larson. In laws; Les Plamann, Ken Buss and Robert Koerner. Erich's brothers, sisters and in laws, two grandsons and one great great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at 11:00AM, on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at St. John United Church of Christ, 1130 W. Marquette St, Appleton, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Fritz officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00AM, until the time of service at the church. Burial will be at the Community Lutheran Cemetery. A memorial to her has been established at St. John U.C.C.
