Walfred S. "Jed" Werner, age 92 of Neenah, passed away April 19, 2012. He was born March 9, 1920 to the late Konstu and Anna (Villanen) Saastamoinen in Ishpeming, Michigan. On April 11, 1945, he was married to Shirley Demaray.

Jed was a 1942 graduate of what is now known as Michigan Technical University where he was a member of ROTC. After receiving his engineering degree, he joined the Army Corps of Engineers and served in both World War II, where he served in North Africa and Italy, and the Korean War. After leaving the military, Jed worked for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh and then began working for Kimberly-Clark in Neenah. Over 33 years, he was transferred between Memphis, Niagara, and back to Neenah, where he retired in 1980. In his retirement, he and Shirley loved to travel and camp and he greatly enjoyed woodworking.
Jed is survived by his two children: Michael (Pauline) Werner; and Sally (Pat) Werner-Lemmers; three grandchildren: Kimberly (Dale) Cook; Steven (Jessica) Werner; and Matthew (Lisa) Werner; and eight great-grandchildren: Kate and Ben Cook; Maggie, Mikayla, Mallorie, and Madison Werner; and Lauren and Jack Werner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; and a daughter, Patricia Peters.
A funeral service for Jed will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home, Rev. Martin Ruge officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
