Lorna McCartney Leekley
Lorna McCartney Leekley, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. She was born on July 19, 1917, the daughter of the late Samuel Jay McCartney and Lulu Weber McCartney. Formerly of Narberth PA and Westport CT, Lorna resided in Appleton for over fifty years. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1939 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and later founded the Five Day Nursery School in Appleton where she was a teacher for many years. Lorna was a longtime member of the Fortnightly and Clio Book Clubs. She also volunteered at the Red Cross and Appleton Memorial Hospital.
Lorna is survived by her children, Lorna (Richard) Kaluzny and Robert Leekley; granddaughters, Amy and Gretchen; great-granddaughters, Emma and Sara; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mitchell Leekley; son, Jay Thomas Leekley; and brother, Samuel Jay McCartney Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 East South River Street, Appleton. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the
