Wayne "Sternie" Stern, age 80, of Neenah, WI, passed away on May 9, 2014, at his home, with his family by his side. He was born on November 19, 1933 in New London, WI, son of Sylvester and Gretchen (Zitzke) Stern.



Wayne graduated from New London High School and UW Oshkosh. In August 1956, He was drafted into service with the United States Army until September 1960. He was called up with the 32nd National Guards and served his country honorably until September 1962.

Wayne was united in marriage to Shirley (Niemuth) on December 29th, 1955 at St. Martin Lutheran church in Clintonville, WI. He was in Sales and retired from the Nestle Company in 2001.

An avid athlete lettering in football, basketball, and track in both high school and at UW Oshkosh.



He truly cherished his family and especially supporting his children and grandchildren at their sporting and music events. During his free time he enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Wilson Lake in Wild Rose, WI as well as, traveling, fishing, hunting and family card games.

Wayne is survived by his wife: Shirley Stern 5 children: Debra (Jeff) Cox,Greg (Mary) Stern, Tammy (Chuck) Blied, Kimberly (Jim) Tagliapietra, Tonya (Joe) Zakovec. Wayne always considered the partners of his children as a special blessing from God, and loved them as his own. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Rachel, Becca and Jacob Stern, Tyler, Jordan Blied, Gabriella Tagliapietra, Lindsey Zakovec; Siblings: Doug Stern (brother), Nancy Moder (sister), Martin (Barbara) Niemuth (brother-in-law), Virginia Piehl , (sister-in-law), Betty Klarner ( sister-in-law), Diane Niemuth (sister-in-law), Roland (Melba) Niemuth ( brother -in-law), Karen Stern (Sister-in-law); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by this parents, Gretchen and Sylvester Stern; Aunt Harriet Ebert "Shortie " (Clarence); Wayne Moder ( Brother-in-law), Donald Piehl ( Brother In-law), Bernard Kitzinger ( brother-in-law), Roy Klarner (brother -in-law); Ron Hall ( lifelong friend).

Funeral Services for Wayne will be held at 12:00 PM, Noon, on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Gloria Dei Lutheran church, 1140 Tullar Rd., Neenah, with Rev. Jon Gallatin officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Heartland Hospice.
