Hogan "Hogie" E. Mathewson

Age 90, of Appleton, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Appleton Medical Center. Hogan was born in New London on March 16, 1924, son of the late Richard and Mabel (Grote) Mathewson. After graduating from New London's Washington High school in 1942, he was inducted into the Army and served three years during World War II. He was attached to the Corps of Engineers in Manila and Tokyo where he was assigned to General MacArthur's headquarters as the chief clerk to the Chief of Engineers, General Headquarters, Armed Forces Pacific. Upon completion of his military services, he attended the Milwaukee Bible Institute as a student of Theology, majoring in biblical Greek language. On May 5, 1962, he was united in marriage to Jean (Prahl) Mehran and they resided in the Milwaukee area. There he enjoyed church activities, teaching, serving on council and other functions of his church. He was employed by Schick Electric for 13 years as manager responsible for product service, sales and distribution throughout Wisconsin and Northern Michigan. In 1966 he joined the General Office of Grede Foundries, Inc. headquartered in Wauwatosa, and became their Systems Analyst of Administrative Procedures. He retired in 1986 after 20 years with Grede and he and Jean moved back to New London. In 1993, they moved to Appleton. As a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church he enjoyed the many activities of the church's Senior Group.

Hogan is survived by his step-daughter, Shereen Scott (Alan Gill); two grandsons: Chad (Jackie) Scott and Joseph (Melissa) Scott; great-grandchildren: Owen, Lily, John, Leah, Brianna and Charlie Scott, all of Milwaukee; one brother, Thomas Mathewson; brother-in-law Edwin Eggert; sisters-in-law: Marian, Lois, and Sally Mathewson, all of New London; Debbie Mathewson, Tigerton. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Jean, sisters Margaret Meyers, June Schroeder, Henrietta Eggert and Bonnie Mathewson; brothers: Edward, Richard, John, Robert, Elwood and DuWayne.

The funeral service for Hogan will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Appleton at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kurt Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery in New London. Visitation will be held directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Military Honors will be held.
