Leonard Wiese Obituary

Wiese, Leonard L.

Leonard L. Wiese, formerly of Appleton Wis., 93, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 3, in Sioux Falls S.D. Born Dec. 23, 1918, to the late Tracy and Esther (Schroeder) Wiese, Leonard spent his early years growing up on the family farm. He married Verla S. Wendt who preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 1989. He served in the Navy as a Seabee during World War II. Upon his completion of service, he worked in home construction, building approximately three hundred homes in the Appleton area. He founded ABC Building and Supply Company which sold building materials. Later he received his Real Estate Brokers' license, and formed Wiese Reality to compliment his other endeavors.

In 1964, he started a part time business selling campers, which grew into a full time RV dealership named Appleton Camping Center, which is still in business today. Upon his retirement in 1985, he enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, visiting various locations in the south and west for many years before moving to his new permanent residence in Brownsville Texas, where he spent 20 plus years before moving to Sioux Falls, S.D., in May of 2011. Leonard will be remembered for his compassion and kind heart. He easily made friends with everyone. He kept active by his involvement in his church and fund raising for charities.

On Feb. 2, 1991, Leonard married Muriel Kohling. She survives. Leonard is further survived by a son, Maury (Shirley), Combined Locks; brothers, Paul (Shirley), Watertown; Vernon, Appleton; grandchildren, Andrew (Kessea) Reitzner, Eau Claire; Jennifer (Kendall) Odekirk, New Holstein; Nicole (William) Miller, Memphis Tenn.; step-grandchildren, Tammy (Timothy) Gosz, Appleton; Tina Semenak, Appleton; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Verla; a daughter, Diane; and brothers, Carl and Donald.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. with services to follow, at Highland Memorial Park, 3131 N Richmond St., Appleton Wis.

He was Uncle Leonard to me and he found time to travel to Iowa for visits with my parents and sometimes with his motor home. I remember him for being organized and also for caring for all people. He kept in contact with family and always asked about extended family on those phone visits. He began the all important family reunions so family could keep in touch. He will be missed. My sympathy to my cousin Maury and his family.

To the family of Mr Wiese I offer my condolences. I met Mr Wiese when I was
