James E. Gutsmiedl, age 80, of Oshkosh, died Tuesday November 13, 2012, at Cherry Meadows Hospice. Jim was born on November 22, 1931, in Oshkosh the son of the late Alois and Marie (Utecht) Gutsmiedl. Jim graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1950, and served in the U.S.M.C. during the Korean War. Jim worked at Rockwell (Axle) for 35 years retiring in 1985 to enjoy life. Jim married Janice Lewis on February 26, 1955, at Algoma Methodist Church.

Jim was passionate about fishing and hunting. He spent his life fishing with his friend Leroy. Jim also enjoyed hunting pheasants with his friend Chuck and their dogs. Jim also liked to bowl, and enjoyed his trips to the casino. Jim's favorite breed of dog was a German Shorthair; his last companion was his kitty, Alley cat.

Jim leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Janice, his children; daughter, Gloria (Russ) Kaelin of Neenah, his sons, Mark J. Gutsmiedl (Cindy) of Larson, and Bruce S. Gutsmiedl (Julie) of Oshkosh. Jim was an adoring grandfather to; Kevin (Ellen) Kaelin, Kyle (Danielle) Kaelin of Neenah, Kayla Gutsmiedl of Waukesha, Carissa Gutsmiedl of Oshkosh, and Ashley and Amy Gutsmiedl of Larsen. Jim was also a great grandfather to Mackenzie.

He is further survived by his brother in laws Richard (Mary Lou) Lewis of Oshkosh, Gerald Noe of Oshkosh, Thomas Frank of AZ, and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Alois and Marie, his sister Geraldine Noe, his in laws Robert and Norma Lewis, and a sister in law Sally Frank.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Lake View Memorial Park, 2786 Algoma Blvd. Oshkosh, on November 24, 2012, from 10AM to noon.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Theda Care Hospice.
