He then joined the United States Army and was assigned to the Army Base in Bussac, France, where he served with the 55th Transportation Division. Here is where John met Joan, his wife for an amazing 54 years.

John's joy in life was his profession as a knitter of Scandinavian sweaters. He served as President of Jersild Knitting Company, a 100 year old family business started by his grandfather. They produced sweaters, skirts and pants to match. John was a Packer fan who held season tickets for many years beginning during the Lombardi era. He was a gentle man and a man of integrity. He was loved greatly by his wife and family and will be missed by all.
