Hackett, Robert Michael
Robert Michael Hackett (Bob), of Berry Lake (Gillett), died at his home after a tremendously rapid fight with cancer, with his loving family by his side, on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013. He was born in Chicago, Ill. on April 2, 1944, to the late Edwin and Mary Catherine Hackett.
Bob was born and raised in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army and worked for the Chicago Police Department. Bob later moved his family to Appleton where he began a consulting business. His door was always open to his children and grandchildren, and other family members and friends. His larger-than-life personality garnered him many friends in the Fox Valley community. Since 2004, Bob and his late wife had lived on Berry Lake in the home he and his sons built. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends on the lake he had been coming to since the early 1950s. He will be remembered with his guitar around a campfire, captaining his pontoon boat, or swimming with his grandkids as a very alive, vibrant and proud man who put family first.
Robert is survived by his five children Edwin (Abigail) Hackett, Jennifer Hackett, Katherine (Brian) Baer, Joseph Hackett and Patrick Hackett, grandchildren William, Margaret, Robert and Thomas Hackett and Jack, Grace and Emily Baer, all of Appleton; brother of Virginia (Jim) Kuczma, Anne Bogacki, Joyce (Ron) Campbell, Bill, Tom (Judy), Jack (Suzanne) Hackett and the late Edwin, Jim (the late Mary Lou) and Ray Hackett, Mary Lou Cummings and Joan Bransley; brother-in-law of Pamela and Alice Hackett, George Cummings and Robert Bransley and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Luncheon will be held to celebrate Robert's life at The Grand Meridian, 2621 N. Oneida St., Appleton on Sunday, Sept.15th from 12-3 p.m.
