Cornelius "Case" VanHouwelingen Obituary
Van Houwelingen, Cornelius "Case'

Cornelius "Case" Van Houwelingen, age 90 of Grand Haven, was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at North Ottawa Community Hospital. Case was born February 27, 1923 to Teunis and Anna van Houwelingen in Hardinxveld, The Netherlands. He survived capture by the Nazis during the Dutch occupation in WWII. It was in those years when Case met Maria (Korving) while he was in hiding in her village. They were married shortly after the war. In 1955 Case and Maria immigrated to the States and settled in Grand Haven where they have resided for 58 years. Case worked as a diesel mechanic and later worked for the Board of Light and Power as a supervisor. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church having served as deacon and elder. Case enjoyed playing Chess with his brother in the Netherlands via letter and phone and later with his oldest grandson via the internet. He also enjoyed working with his hands; creating wrought iron pieces, traveling, camping and reading. Case's greatest love was for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who cherished the time he was able to spend with his family.

Case will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Maria; children, Tony (Margie) Van Houwelingen of Grand Haven, Peter (Su) van Houwelingen of Neenah, WI, Anna (Gary) Sluis of Grand Haven, Marjon (Carl) Dodde of Lake City, MI; grandchildren, Marc (Amber) Van Houwelingen, Tyler van Houwelingen (Stefanie), Nick (Allison) Van Houwelingen, Luke (Diana) van Houwelingen, Elisabeth (Jeremy) Von Eitzen, Rebecca (fiancé, Andrew) van Houwelingen, Jessica (fiancé, Rob) Coonen, Megan (David) Thumann, Adam (Lauren) Coonen, Jon (Lisa) Sluis, Rachel Sluis, Joel Sluis (Megan), Maria (Karl) Marcusse, Erin (Todd) Koetje, Carla and Alexandra Dodde; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Cora, Case, Joshua, Zachary, Kendal, Henry, Liam, Hannah, Micah, Aiden and Jane; daughter-in-law, Kathy van Houwelingen; brother, Teunis (Gonnie) van Houwelingen of The Netherlands; sisters-in-law, Riet, Trijntje and Hannie van Houwelingen; many nieces and nephews. Case was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pleuntje Sterrenberg; brothers, Arie, Dirk, Jan, Gerrit, Bas and Herman van Houwelingen, all of The Netherlands.
