Carl John Huibregtse Obituary
Carl John Huibregtse, 83, of Cedar Grove, entered into eternal life on Thursday, December 19, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Carl was born on October 1, 1930, to Anthony and Ellen (Prinsen) Huibregtse on his grandparents' farm south of Cedar Grove.

When Carl was young, he worked on different farms during the summer. He graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1948. Carl worked for American Motors in Milwaukee prior to being drafted into the Marine Corps in January 1952. On December 30, 1952, he married Phyllis Kappers in Oostburg, WI, and they returned to San Francisco where Carl worked in the Supply Depot until being honorably discharged in 1954.

After returning to Cedar Grove, Carl worked at Bolens in Port Washington for a short time before starting the Shell Service Station with Ralph Voskuil in 1955. Besides offering full service to their customers, they also delivered fuel oil and gas. Carl enjoyed providing customers with the best cars available through the car dealership.

After the sale of the Shell Service Station in 1994, Carl continued working with his son, Dean, at Cedar Grove Auto. He never really retired, as he enjoyed going to the "shop" each day.

Carl was a lifetime member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, where he served as an usher, deacon, elder, and church treasurer. He was on the board of directors of Cedar Grove Cemetery and belonged to Cedar Grove Legion Post 338.

Carl and Phyllis enjoyed trips with friends and family to Canada and many states including Hawaii and Alaska. Time spent in northern Wisconsin at "The Shack" and their cottage on Lake Mary provided many memories of snowmobiling, fishing, deer hunting, and relaxing. Carl and Phyllis supported the activities of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Carl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis, three daughters, Lynn (Mark) Huenink of Appleton, Gail (Dennis) Prinsen of Manchester, IA, Kay (Steve) Veldhorst of Neenah, and one son, Dean, of Cedar Grove. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; Gregory (Bridget) Huenink of Appleton, Kristine (Brian) Altena of Little River, SC, Kimberlyn Huenink of Boston, MA, Kara (Creed) Darling of Franklin, WI, Kelli (Dan) Rado of Waukesha, WI, Andrew (Courtney) Prinsen of Muscatine, IA, Emily Prinsen of Kansas City, MO, Amy (fiancé Brian), Katelyn and Bradley Veldhorst of Neenah; nine great-grandchildren; Geoffrey and Jonathan Huenink, Kirali, Mikayla, and Tristan Altena, Maelee, Liam, and Graeme Darling, Madelynn Rado and two great-grandchildren due in April 2014.

Also survived by Phyllis's family are Minnie Dykstra of Hingham, Janet TeBeest, Marge (Bud) Obbink, and John (Charlotte) Kappers, all of Oostburg, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He will be greeted in heaven by his parents, his three sisters and their spouses, Wilma (Allie) DeMaster, Muriel (Lester) Meeusen, Elenore (Dale) Lammers, and two brothers, Norbert (who called Carl "Buddy"), and Gordon (Muriel); two brother-in-laws, Willard Dykstra and Howard TeBeest; niece, Janelle Leung, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services to celebrate Carl's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013, at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with Rev. Kent Vant Hul officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will take place in Cedar Grove Cemetery immediately following the service.

Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday, December 22, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and also at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for First Reformed Church of Cedar Grove.
