Jerome William O'Bright, age 80, died peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at his home with his family at his side.
Jerry was born September 23, 1933 in Neenah the son of the late Edward and Ella (Rymer) O'Bright. He was a Menasha High School graduate class of 1952 an all conference player on the Menasha High School undefeated 1951 football team. Jerry served his country with the US Navy from June 1953 until June 1957 as an aircraft engine mechanic. During that time he was commended for aiding and rescuing a pilot from his crashed aircraft. Jerry was formerly employed with Kimberly Clark for a few years and was a firefighter for the city of Menasha for over 10 years. He also worked for the McClone family of Menasha before starting his own company in 1980 Flush Drain and Sewer Cleaning Inc. until he retired in 1996. Jerry enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and was an avid Packer and Brewer fan. He was also a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Menasha for over 40 years.
Jerry is survived by his four children, Glenn O'Bright, Madison; Gail (Ken) Liberty, Mount Prospect, IL; Daniel (Amy) O'Bright, and Patrick (Lori) O'Bright, both of Menasha. Six grandchildren, Tim and Mary Liberty, Andrea and Alesha O'Bright, and Caden and Abby O'Bright, a brother, Duane (Alice) O'Bright, Menasha; sisters, Marilyn Leedom, Menasha; Kathy Oelrich, Marshfield; his faithful four-legged companion Luke and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Diane in 2010, his parents, a sister, Rosemary (Harry) Verkuilen and two brothers-in-law, James Leedom and Lloyd Oelrich.
The Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 11:30 AM Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 324 Nicolet Boulevard, Menasha with the Rev. James Hablewitz officiating. Full Military Honors to follow the service. Interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery Neenah. Jerry's family will receive family and friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00AM until 11:15AM.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Affinity Hospice the nurses at BrightStar Care, to Lori Searce for all of her compassion and care for Jerry and Dr. Nancy Homberg and Brenda at Palliative Care Hospice for all of their support and care for Jerry as well.
