Ruth L. Ross

Ruth L. (Horschler) Ross, age 77 of Shawano, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 in the presence of her family. Born on March 24, 1936 in Joliet, IL, she was the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Feltz) Horschler. On September 11, 1955 she was united in marriage to Donald Ross. After marriage Ruth worked as a secretary at Skidmore Pumps in Benton Harbor, MI. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Saint Joseph, MI. In her earlier years she enjoyed camping, singing, teaching and playing piano. In her later years she enjoyed doing crafts and traveling with her sister, Ethel, and was always taking pictures. But her greatest joy in life was caring for and spending time with her family.

Ruth is survived by: her children, Patricia Peterson, Beverly Seils, Mark (Joan) Ross, Kimberly (John) Collins, David Ross, Judith Ellis, Jeffrey Ross; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Ruth is further survived by: her sister, Ethel Peterson; sisters-in-law, Peggy Horschler, Marge Horschler; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by: her husband, Donald; siblings, Agnes who died in infancy, Ellenor (Robert) Kness, Clarence (Janette) Horschler, Art Horschler, Edna (Leo) Gale, Milton (Smokey) Horschler, Gladys (Richard) Martin, John Horschler; and a brother-in-law, Ernest Peterson.

Burial will take place at the Hills of Rest Cemetery in Joliet, IL at a future date, along with a memorial service at that time. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements. A memorial fund is being established; contributions can be sent to Mark Ross, 1049 Manitoba Street, Menasha, WI 54952.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pine Manor Nursing Facilities in Clintonville, along with the hospice staff from Southern Care for the wonderful care given to their mother the last few years.
