King, Phineas E.

Phineas E. King, age 81, of Appleton, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 in Neenah. He was born March 29, 1933 in Oneida, Wisconsin to the late Issac and Olive (Swamp) King. On June 30, 1950 he enlisted in the US Navy Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, IL, Company #207. From 1950 to 1954 he served aboard the USS Valley Forge CV 45 during the Korean Conflict. On February 3, 1954 he was discharged from the Navy at the US Naval Station in Norfolk, VA. In October, 1954 he received orders for Patrol Squadron 26 US Naval Air Station, Brunswick, Maine. October, 1958 he reenlisted, received orders to US Naval Air Station Anacostia, Washington D.C. November, 1960 he received orders for Patrol Squadron 11. July, 1963, he received orders for US Naval Air Station, Glenview, IL. October, 1965, ordered to Anti Submarine Squadron One, US Naval Air Station, Alameda, California. November, 1968, orders for Naval Air Logistics Control Unit Atlantic Fleet, US Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Virginia. February 20, 1973 he retired from the US Navy with Honors, receiving: Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct w/3 Stars, China Service, Asiatic Occupation, National Defense w/1 Star, Korean War Medal w/6 Stars, Armed Forces Expedition W/1 Star, VietNam Service, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal, Korean War Service (Foreign). On November 3, 1956, he married Joyce Jean Russell in Annapolis, Maryland, and together they had four sons. In October of 2013, Phineas was able to attend the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Jean, his sons; Richard and Kenneth (Gloria), four grandchildren, one great granddaughter and one great grandson.

Phineas is preceded in death by his parents, and sons; Joseph and Randall.

Funeral services for Phineas will be held at 4:00PM, Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St, Appleton WI, with the Rev. Bob Samuels officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00PM until the time of service. Military honors will be preformed by the Oneida VFW Post 7784 immediately following the service.
