Mohr, Betty Jane
SPARTA-Betty Jane Mohr, 70, of Sparta passed into the gates of heaven on September 8, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at Gundersen Health Systems, La Crosse.
Betty was born June 2, 1944 to Harold and Marcella Mulligan and grew up in the Beaver Dam area. Betty graduated in 1962 from Beaver Dam High School. She married Raymond Mohr December 12, 1964 at St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. The two were happily married for almost 50 years. In her younger days, Betty enjoyed bowling, softball, sewing, knitting, and gardening. Betty was dedicated to her faith in our Lord, her family, and to the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and School where she readily volunteered her time when called upon. Betty was happiest and proudest working alongside her husband for almost 20 years at Steenberg Homes in Sparta.
Betty is survived by her beloved husband, Raymond; sons, Timothy Mohr (special friend, Lisa), Sparta; and Gregory (Becky) Mohr, Appleton; and five cherished grandchildren, John, James, Ben, Adrianna, and Luke. She is further survived by five sisters, Carol Koblitz, Mary (Jack) Domann, Marlene (Roger) Plank, JoAnn Mulligan, Susan Mulligan, and six brothers, David (Carol) Mulligan, Gene (Joyce) Mulligan, Wayne Mulligan, Steve (Linda) Mulligan, Tom (Carol) Mulligan, Warren Mulligan; sister-in-law, Berlaine (Robert) Roth; nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and little brother, Billy.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Gundersen Health Systems for their care and compassion during Betty's last days. They would also like to thank Deb Arentz for the love, care and friendship she provided to Betty as her care coordinator for many years.
Grandma, you brought joy to so many and we will miss you. As you walk in heaven, we are comforted to know that your suffering is over and look forward to laughing and talking with you there.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Ev Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend Mark Wessel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to call at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, on Wednesday (today) from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund in Betty's name to be used by St. John's Evangelical Lutheran School in Sparta. Memorials may be sent to the church office.
