DAVID SHRAGER Obituary
A lover of life. Father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend to many. He lived more life in every moment than most live in a lifetime. He loved many, he was loved by more. A celebrated criminal defense attorney, his passion for the job endured always. His exuberance for life was legendary. His life was one lived with gusto; he laughed loudly, he lit up every room he entered, he had moxie. Most of all, he will be remembered for his kindness, his generosity, his gentleness, and his love. He died on October 16, 2014, at the age of 67. He is survived by his daughter, Julie Bowden; son, Joshua Shrager; and daughter-in-law, Ewura Esi Arthur; his brother, Daniel; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is survived by the world. Services at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside, on Monday, October 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. Visitation two hours prior to services (9 a.m. to 11 a.m.). Interment B'Nai Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the David S. Shrager Memorial Fund at http://bit.do/shrager or a charity of the donor's choice. His loss is immeasurable. Keep him in your heart for a while.

I noticed David’s obituary was still open for comments. It’s hard to believe it’s going on eight years since your passing. David was not only a friend. But I also was one of his clients. I was facing at least five years in prison for a serious drug charge. I retained David as my counsel. Best decision I have ever made. The Courtroom was David at its best. I ended up only receiving probation. I really believe if it wasn’t for David’s extreme knowledge of the law . I would have gone to prison. Rest In Peace my friend.

I just read about Dave's passing in the Duquesne newsletter. Dave was one of the first people to extend friendship to me at Duquesne in 1966. I'm not surprised to read how that genuine kindness and spirit continued throughout his life. RIP good friend.

I am so deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Shrager, from being my teacher in grade school to watching him help many people in the courts he was always so very dedicated to life. I offer my belated sympathy to David's family, I pray for you and all of those who loved him. We have truly lost one of Pittsburgh's finest men.

Myself & my husband were shocked & so very sorry to hear of David's passing. I fondly recall running into David downtown. He would smile & yell "T, how are you", followed by huge bear hugs & concern for my son. I will truly miss him. G-d Bless him & his many family members.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of such a great man. I used to work in the same office with Dave and his firm. He was always so kind and generous and had the best stories. I was so sad to read about this.
David Shrager was one of my favorite teachers at Hillel. I remember him so fondly. I can shut my eyes and remember standing outside shaking soda bottles until they exploded, bringing science to life. He was one of a kind

My wife and I went to high school and graduated with David. I was a deputy Sheriff for 32 years so a friendship with David continued for many years. We always had a friendly banter about our different sides of the law but there was always the respect for each other and our jobs. Many times I was able to see David work with his clients and I know he fought hard and long for every one of them. He was a great, hard working advocate for those he defended. I will miss a friend and the law will miss a strong presence.

How sad to learn about David's passing. We knew one another since high school and frequently found ourselves on opposite sides of cases when I was practicing law in Pittsburgh. David was always professional, never allowed our professional differences to damage our underlying friendship. He was a compassionate man, a great lawyer, an exemplary human being.
