WILLIAM L.
Age 84, died peacefully at home on Thursday, January 1, 2015. The beloved husband of 52 years to Marguerite Oliver; loving father to Baird, N. Graham, James and Constance; adoring grandfather to Will, Audrey, Wren, Linden, North, Shea, Erin, Daisy and Lydia; brother of the late Peter McCargo Standish and his surviving wife, Mary Gaines Standish. After Yale and UVA Law School, Judge Standish was an attorney at Reed Smith Shaw & McClay. He began working at the firm as a law clerk in 1956 and worked his way to a partner, a position he held from 1964-1980. He was elected to the Court of Common Pleas in 1980 and appointed by President Reagan to the Federal Court in 1987. He spent 32 years as a judge and has practiced law for almost 60 years. He has served in many civic organizations such as; Sewickley Valley YMCA, Association of Yale Alumni, Western PA School for the Deaf, Sewickley Cemetery, Laughlin Children's Center, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America. He served for many years as Elder and Clerk of Session of the Sewickley Presbyterian Church, as well as serving on the Board of Trustees of the Pittsburgh Seminary. He was one of the founding owners of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He belonged to numerous professional organizations. He always believed that service to others is of paramount importance. Memorial sugestions include UVA Law School Foundation, Charlottesville, VA 22903-1738 or a charity of your choice. Friends will be received in the Robinson Room of the Presbyterian Church of Sewickley, Grant St., Sewickley, PA on Monday, January 5, 2015, from 6-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with services to follow at 11 a.m. Arrangements by the RICHARD D. COLE FUNERAL HOME, INC., Sewickley, PA.

I will always be grateful for the kindness and wisdom Judge Standish showed us in his courtrooms. I'm sure he was a wonderful husband and father. God bless his grieving family.
