BRANNON DOROTHY ANN Age 90, of Castle Shannon, on Monday, December 22, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Raymond Thomas Brannon; devoted mother of Raymond T. Jr., Linda Lee Varanese, Colleen Stuart and Timothy Brannon; sister of late Peggy Larkin; grandmother of Raymond III, Adam, Eric, Marylee, Lindsay, Sean, and Ryan; great-grandmother of six. She was president/owner of Brannon Home & Health Care, Inc. (three offices), owner Roommate Finder Services, owner Almost New shop, past president of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, past president of Council and hospitality chairperson at Devonshire Retirement Community, and Queen of the Redhats, Devonshire Dolls chapter. If you met her then you would receive a piece of candy and know that she traveled to 23 different countries. You would see that she was always ready with a smile or laugh. Dorothy would tell you that she met the Queen of England and touched the hand of Pope Paul. She would try to make you laugh with her (and many times at her expense) always with love in the heart. She was very creative, loved to dance into her 90s and was usually the life of the party. Most knew her as the "Candy Lady". To her close friends and family, she was a beautiful lady inside and out that will be terribly missed and forever in our hearts. BACKUS S. ROBERT Unexpectedly on Sat., Dec. 20, 2014, age 56,of Monroeville, fondly called "Bobby". He was the son of the late Samuel Robert Backus and Rosina Kenyon Backus. Bobby was the loving companion of Jacquie Folkmire; cherished father of Robert Anthony Backus and Dana Rose Backus; also survived by the mother of his children, Leanna DeCenzo Backus; devoted brother of Sally Backus Wickstrom and her husband, Gus and the late Frank K. Backus. Bobby was adored by his nieces and nephews and had a wide circle of friends, many of whom referred to him as "The Man In Black". He had a quick wit and penchant to help others. (Frannie) Balsomico II and Debbie (John) Alm; grandfather of Jason (April) Balsomico, Steven (Yasuko) Balsomico, Andrew and Gina Alm and the late Brian Balsomico; great-grandfather of Logan and Richard Juntarou "RJ" Balsomico; brother of Edna Braverman, Norma DeLuca and the late Dorothy Mittenswey. Friends received at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th Street, Lawrenceville, Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Angels Parish, St. Augustine Church on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. Richard served in the Navy during World War II, was a U.S. Postal Clerk and retired in 1978, then became a volunteer for the Rehabilitation Institute of Pittsburgh and John Kane Hospital. He was a certified lifeguard and past president of A.A.R.P. Chapter 3949, a fan of boxing, having boxed for the Kingsley House and in the Navy. In Richard's early years, he, his father, uncle and family, formed the group "The Melody Four". His favorite hobby was singing and entertaining the residents at Canterbury Place. BAKER M.D., Dr. ROBERT JAMES - Crafton  
BAKER Dr. ROBERT JAMES, M.D. Died peacefully at his home in Bethesda, MD, on Sunday, December 14, 2014. He was born in McKees Rocks, PA, the son of Nicholas (at one time the town's mayor) and Theresa May Baker. He graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and Loyola University Medical School in Chicago, IL. He served as a private first class during World War II with the U.S. Army and as a captain and medical officer in the Air Force during the Korean War. Burial will be with full military honors. Dr. Baker spent the early years of his medical career in general practice in McKees Rocks, delivering several hundred babies (most of whom today are in their 60s). Following his career to help others, he devoted the bulk of his career to psychiatry, training at St. Elizabeth's in Washington, D.C., St. Francis of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Psychoanalytic Institute. He practiced his office in Pittsburgh and later Beaver, PA and at the University of Pittsburgh, St. Francis Hospital, the Butler Veteran's Administration Hospital, and the Rochester, PA Mental Health Center. Throughout his life, Dr. Baker was passionate for learning, charity, his Catholic faith, and his family. He served for many years on Parish Council on St. Mary's Helpful Christians, renamed St. John of God Parish and later at St. Paul's Cathedral of Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Paul, Raymond, and John Baker, Dorothy Rennenkamp, Amelia Hartner, Ethel Kosmar, and Pennsylvania's former lieutenant governor, Catherine Baker Knoll. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Martha (Croson) Baker; a sister, Mary Ridgeway; his children, Robert W. Baker and Paula Trzepacz of Indianapolis, IN, Maria Baker Balady and Eddie Balady of Garden City, NY, Elizabeth M. Baker Keffer and Jeff Keffer (deceased) of Washington, D.C., Joseph X., and Amy M. Baker of Bethesda, MD; and his grandchildren, Leila, Isabel, and Michael Balady of Garden City, NY, May, Abby, and Griffin Keffer, Washington, D.C., and Axel Baker of San Antonio, TX. Visitation 6-8 p.m. THURSDAY ONLY at the SCHEPNER - McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 165 Noble Ave., Crafton, PA 15205.
