ROMANO RICHARD W. Age 43, unexpectedly at his Crafton home, Saturday, April 30, 2016. Beloved son of Mimi (Rooney) and the late Ralph S. Romano; brother of Ralph R. Romano (Joseph Gonot) and Joseph Romano; uncle of Nicholas, Kyle and Bella Romano. Richard was an exceptional musician and piano teacher. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. RUSSELL, DANIEL STEARNS - Pittsburgh  
RUSSELL DANIEL STEARNS Daniel Stearns Russell passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at his home in Pittsburgh. He was 78 years old. Originally from Frankfort, NY, Daniel graduated from Hamilton College in 1959 with a BA in Philosophy. He earned his MA (1961) and PhD (1968) in French Literature from New York University. As professor and longtime chair (1984-1996) of the Department of French & Italian at the University of Pittsburgh, Daniel Russell taught courses in French language, literature, and culture from 1968 until his retirement in 2005. His research focused on the Renaissance genres of the emblem and device, with particular emphasis on their relationship to early modern culture. He published numerous articles and books on these topics, including The Emblem and Device in France (1985) and Emblematic Structures in Renaissance French Culture (1995). In 1986, he co-founded the journal Emblematica and served for many years as one of its editors. He received numerous awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship. In addition to his academic achievements he was a warm person and a mentor to family, friends, students and colleagues. He loved good food, fine wines, old books, classical music and bluegrass. An accomplished cook who appreciated a well-written recipe, he was famous among his friends for his Niçoise salad. He is survived by his wife, Lila Penchansky; daughter, Allison Russell; son, Nicolas Russell; and granddaughter, Amalia Navarro. A memorial service will be held at Heinz Memorial Chapel on the University of Pittsburgh campus at 11:00 a.m. on May 20, 2016. RODGERS SHERI L. (RISH) Age 47, of the North Hills, Pittsburgh formerly of Wintersville, a loving Mother, Daughter and Sister died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Valley Hospice. She was born December 16, 1968, in Steubenville. Sheri was a homemaker and a graduate of Wintersville High School class of 1987 and Kent State University. She was a member of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, Pittsburgh and was actively involved with Northway Christian Community Church, Wexford. She is the daughter of Delbert and Jessie Piccirillo Rish of Wintersville, Sheri is also survived by her two daughters, Samantha and Skylar Rodgers both at home. Her brother, John wife, Isis Rish of Columbus and her faithful dog, Spencer. Sheri was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Mickey Mouse fan and loved Disney World; Sheri also was very active with the Pancreatic Cancer awareness event, Purplestride. RONKSLEY BARBARA JEAN (WITHROW) Age 89, of Cranberry Twp., on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, born in Lafayette, IN to the late Lewis and Alma Kay Withrow. Beloved wife of the late Robert I. Ronksley for 67 years; loving mother of Martha Kay Heidkamp (Bill), Thomas I. Ronksley (Donna), the late Diana Lynn Koehler and the late Robert L. Ronksley; proud grandmother of Brian, Justin (Tracy), Kristopher (Jennifer), Karie (El), Aaron (Lindsay) and Adrian (Anthony); and proud great-grandmother of nine. Barbara took an active role in farming her parents' land in Indiana until she met Bob at Purdue University where they both were students. They married in 1947. Bob's career took them to Los Angeles, CA, Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh, PA. In 1972, they moved to Erie, where she finished her college education with a degree in Environmental Sciences from Mercyhurst College, graduating in the same class as her son, Bob. In 1993, she and Bob moved to Conneaut Lake, PA, then to Cranberry Twp. in 2006, and Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community in 2010. Barbara was strong in her faith and love of family. She was an active volunteer in many organizations, including her church and Habitat for Humanity. She loved playing bridge, creating beautiful quilts, gardening, reading and traveling all over the world. Barbara was a wonderful role model for all, and loved and respected by all who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, May 15, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, 100 Norman Drive, Cranberry Twp., PA. Interment will be private in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Monday. REECE ALLAN "AL" Age 92, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully with his son and granddaughter by his side on Friday, April 8, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Evelyn Reece for 70 years. Born in White Plains, NY, he was the son of the late Ernest and Sabra Reece. Loving father of Allan (Margo) Reece of Gainesville, FL and Dale (Carol) Reece of Pittsburgh, PA; cherished grandfather of Erin Reece and Neil (Eileen) Reece, also from Pittsburgh. Al was an avid boater who explored the Pittsburgh rivers with his family and friends over three decades. As Senior Vice President at Blue Cross where he worked for 30 years, Al earned respect and gratitude from employees for the many ways in which he helped them and the company. For example, he instituted the first 401K program in Pittsburgh. Al will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Bower Hill Community Church, 70 Moffett Street, Mt. Lebanon, on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 11 a.m.
