Age 87, formerly of Kilbuck Township, on January 7, 2013. After a long struggle, Alan died at Masonic Village Skilled Nursing with his family by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vere and Edith Edwards; and by his four sisters, Virginia, Ruth, Marion, and Carol. Alan, beloved husband of Susan Shaw Edwards for 63 years, generous father of Claudia (Allen) Warkaske and Greg (Judy) Edwards, and treasured grandfather of Eric Edwards Donley and Christina Susan Donley. Alan was a renaissance man. Following his service in the Navy during WWII, Alan took his Lehigh University engineering degree and worked tirelessly for Union Barge Line/Union Mechling of Dravo Corporation until his retirement at age 55, whereby Alan entered and in three years, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Law School. Alan was a generous man both to his family and to those in need, capping his career with an inspiring three-week mission to Malawi with his wife and church. An avid amateur race car driver, Alan spent time at both Nelson's Ledges and Mid Ohio joyfully racing his yellow 56 Porsche Speedster and his Renault 5. He also enjoyed travelling, skiing, wine, and his family. He will be missed by everyone whose life he has touched, but most of all by his devoted family. A Memorial Service is scheduled to honor Alan's life at the CPCBA on Saturday, January 19, 9:15 a.m. Visitation with family members, 10:00 a.m. Service followed by a brief reception.
