Age 86 of the South Hills on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Robert A. Hawk; loving mother of Mary Nell Hawk and the late Robert Jeffrey Hawk; aunt of Linda Bodner, John Skoog, Sharon and Ward Hawk, Donald Skoog and the late Scott Skoog; and a dear friend to many. Barbara was active in the Southminster Presbyterian Church since her family moved to Pittsburgh from Alcoa, Tenn. in 1936, she served as Church Hostess for many years and was a ringer with the Southminister Women's Handbell team. Prior to that, she was a secretary in the History department at Carnegie-Mellon University and has written a book, "Quilts, Boats and Bells," about her favorite things. A memorial service and reception will be held at Southminister Church on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at 3 p.m. Family suggests memorial contributions in Barbara's name be made to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy,, 800 Waterfront Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15222, to preserve the natural spaces she knew and loved.
