SUTHERLAND CHARLES SIDNEY "CHUCK"
Age 74, of Kettering, Ohio, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away unexpectedly on July 21, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joyce; two daughters, Karen MacLean (Dan) and Jennifer Howell (Tom); and a son, Jim; five grandchildren, Mary Kate and Bob MacLean, Mackenzie, Ali and Katie Howell, whom he deeply loved and always had ice cream with them when they visited; a brother, William Sutherland (Nell) of Pittsburgh; brother-in-law, Joseph Jehl (Jeanne) of Annapolis; also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents and beloved brother and sister-in-law, Ren and Marcia Sutherland of Pittsburgh. A graduate of Shady Side Academy '56 and Cornell University '60. At Cornell he was a member of Sigma Phi Fraternity and sang bass with The Sherwoods, a men's a cappella group. The Sherwoods reunited in 1998 and have continued to entertain audiences around the country while raising money for a variety of charities. A former member of Southern Gateway Barbershop Chorus, and the Kettering Rotary Club
, where in keeping with his love of music, was the Song Leader–ever ready with his pitch pipe. Following his career with Mellon Bank and Winters Bank, he was a Certified Financial Planner at Prudential, National City Securities and American Express. He served his country for 20 years in the Navy and Naval Reserves. A kind, compassionate man with a wonderful sense of humor, he will be greatly missed, but remembered fondly.
