EDWARD J. NOVAK(1923 - 2014)

Beloved husband of Marie, went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on July 5, 2014. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 26, 1923, to Andrew and Louise Novak, Ed was the youngest of five children. He was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley and Joseph; and his sisters, Marie and Frances. After high school Ed joined the Air Force in 1943 and served in World War II until 1945. Upon returning from the war, he attended Duquesne University, where he played baseball and earned a degree in Industrial Management. He was recalled to duty during the Korean War and was discharged a year later. Ed married the love of his life, Marie Mezzapesa, in 1953 and had a 30-year career in Industrial Engineering at US Steel. He was an avid baseball player in his younger years and was passionate about all sports, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. Most important to Ed were his love of God and his family. Ed's faith in God guided his life, and his kindness touched everyone who knew him. During his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling, playing golf, family, friends, and an occasional manhattan. In 2007, Ed and Marie moved to Scottsdale, AZ, to be close to their daughter, Mary Ellen, and her family. He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter, Sue (Mike) Kira; son, Ed (Jodee) Novak; and daughter, Mary Ellen (Carl) Mulac; and his grandchildren, Carl, Luke, Jenna, Emily, and Troy. Family and friends will be received at ANTHONY M. MUSMANNO FUNERAL HOME, INC., 700 7th St., McKees Rocks on Friday evening from 6-8. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday 11:30 a.m. St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Greentree. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, 310 Mansfield Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15220.
