Age 84, of San Leandro, CA, and formerly of Pittsburgh and Wellsville, NY, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2013, at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, CA, with his wife and daughters at his side. Francis was born in Wellsville on December 15, 1928. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School, Wellsville High School class of 1946, and he attended St. Bonaventure University. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War
. In the 1950s, Francis began his career in the automobile industry in Wellsville with General Motors
. In the mid-1970s, he owned the Mercedes-Benz dealership on Saw Mill Run Boulevard. After acquiring a Honda franchise, he opened Francis P. Dean Honda in West Mifflin. He also owned dealerships in San Leandro, CA, and Burlingame, CA. Francis was a long-time member of the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, serving on their board of directors, and he was a parishioner at St. Paul's Cathedral. An avid sports fan and golfer, he competed for many years in Froggy's Golf Classic at South Hills Country Club and the Honda Pro-Am Golf Classic. Francis is survived by Virginia, his loving wife of 56 years; and their five daughters, Francie Kunaniec, Carol Kekos, Cathy Cramer, Mary Dean, and Teresa Fynes; their spouses; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by five siblings, many nieces and nephews and godchildren, in addition to longtime friends who have greatly enriched his life. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on January 19, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Church, with burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville.
