91, a resident of Sherwood Oaks, Cranberry Twp., passed away November 6, 2012. He was born October 6, 1921 in Portersville, PA, son of the late Ira and Martha (Stickle) Cleland. James enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time in his garden. Mr. Cleland retired as a Colonel with the Air National Guard, in which he served during Vietnam. He also served in WWII with the Army Air Corp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley (Palmer) Cleland; his siblings, William, Donald, Dale, Paul, Phyllis, Dorothy, and Marian. He is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, John "Jack" and Virginia Cleland, Coraopolis, Thomas and Kathy Cleland, Dallas, TX, Robert and Roberta Cleland, Economy Borough, James "Kevin" and Carol Cleland, Baltimore, MD, Philip "Flip" and Lisa Cleland, Mt. Lebanon; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia "Patti" and Bruce Carfagna, Moon Twp.; 12 precious grandchildren, John, Barbara, Leighann, Julie, Nathan, Christopher, Melissa, Mandy, Lindsey, Patrick, Caitlin, and Abby; five special great-grandchildren, Haley, Cameron, Logan, Samantha, and Spencer; and his brother, David Cleland. In honor of his wishes, there will be no public viewing. Cremation arrangements are by the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester, PA. Interment will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on November 30, 2012 at 2 p.m. with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Celtic Healthcare Hospice, 150 Scharberry Ln., Mars, PA 16046.
