On Monday, December 17, 2012, age 79, born and raised on the North Side, attended St. Benedict H.S. She left Pittsburgh after school to join the Margie Bassett Dance Troupe, traveling the United States, being young and having fun. Joan married and had four children, then divorced. Joan successfully raised the children on her own, with only minor damage and occasional assists from the local police. She worked hard for the benefit of her children, imparting her love of family, strong work ethic, and sense of humor. As long as the family could gather and laugh, no circumstance was overwhelming. As is the case here in Pittsburgh, Joan was a dedicated Stiller fan. She rarely missed an opportunity to gather with family to cheer or curse the black and gold. I'm sure Joan is speaking with St. Peter about a little divine intervention. Joan once had a near death experience, presumably to check things out for future reference. An experience in which she found great comfort. This time, it was a complete death experience. Joan's life was one of pain and joy, of love and loss, it was a life lived. When Joan arrives in Heaven, may God speak loudly, because she was losing her hearing. Survived by her four children, Colleen MacPherson, Jacky (Kevin) LaMaire, and Shane (Gail) MacPherson, and Harley (Patty) MacPherson; grandchildren, Joe and Dylan MacPherson, Tristan LaMaire; sister of Carol (Joe) Grace, Agnes Krey and Mary Ann (Tony) Vallus; and about six million other people on earth. Joan was preceded in death by her father and mother, Henry and Agnes (Watson) Krey; and sister, Imelda Blair. Celebrate Joan's life Friday 9:30 a.m. in Christ Our Redeemer Mausoleum, 204 Cemetery Lane, Pgh., 15237, with a Blessing Service to follow at 10 a.m. Arrangements by SCHEPNER - McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., Crafton, (412-921-3661). In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950.
