LIPTAK JOHN P.
Age 86, of White Oak and formerly of Port Vue, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013, in UPMC McKeesport Hospital. Born October 25, 1926 in Braddock, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary (Mizla) Liptak. An outstanding four sport athlete at McKeesport High School, John was a record setting gridiron star at Auburn University, where he also played baseball. John taught and coached at Wilmerding and McKeesport High Schools, and retired as assistant superintendent at East Allegheny High School, where he was formerly assistant principal. John also served in the US Army, received a Masters in Education from Duquesne University, and his Superintendent Letters from Youngstown State University. He was also an avid coin collector. John's wife, the late Esther (Gavin) Liptak, passed away April 6, 2002. He is survived by daughters, Johannah Robb, and husband Art, of Beaver and Patricia Liptak McGrail, and husband John, of Mt. Vernon; five grandsons, Gavin (Melanie) Robb and Jeffrey Robb of Pittsburgh, Brendan McGrail of South Bend, IN, Connor McGrail of Erie, and Colin McGrail of Mt. Vernon; nieces, Diane Retone and Barbara Shaw; and nephew, Tom Liptak. Friends will be received in the DANIEL F. BEKAVAC FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 4504 Walnut St., Versailles, PA 15132 (412-678-3454) on Friday, February 15, 2013 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mark's Parish, Port Vue Site, with Father Daniel Straughn officiating.
