Age 68, of Oakdale, suddenly on Sunday, March 17, 2013. Beloved husband of Cheryl Wilsher Bateman; loving father of John R. Bateman (Barbara), and Sherri Bateman Vargo (Robert); brother of Peggy Remy, Harry Bateman, Judy Gibbs, and the late Thomas Bateman; also survived by eight step-grandchildren; and the "boys", Midnight and Shadow. As a truck driver for OK Groceries (Giant Eagle), Jack was a member of Teamsters Local #249 and Trustee for the Retirees Joint Council #40. He was an Oakdale Borough Councilman and a member of Char West Council of Governments for over 25 years each. He was a member of American Legion Post #0171 and Masonic Lodge #669. Well known as "Decaf Jack" among family and friends, he always had to have his decaf coffee. He loved socializing at any and all events, and was always outgoing and happy, regardless of the obstacles that came his way. Jack will be sadly missed by many, especially by Cheryl, his best friend and wife of 45 years, his children, John and Sherri, their families, and all whose lives he's touched throughout the years. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday only at HENNEY, BRADWELL & NIRELLA FUNERAL HOME, 524 Washington Ave., Carnegie, where Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, with full military honors.
