JOSEPH JOHN, Sr.
On Monday, April 8, 2013, Joseph J., 92, of Pleasant Hills. Born March 23, 1921 to the late Edward H. and Cecilia P. (Wendell) Biedenbach. Joe grew up in the Hazelwood area and trained as an auto mechanic at Connelly Trade Vocational School. November 1942, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, surviving the torpedoing of the troop shop Mallory in the North Atlantic and was later one of the first members of the Fifth Marine Division to land in the occupation of Japan. After the war, he returned to Pittsburgh and went back to work for Packard as an auto mechanic, later he worked for Amoco Oil as a diesel mechanic, retiring in 1983. He and his late wife, Ruth Beatrice (Cade) Burns were married in 1948; father of Robert B. (Patricia) Burns, Carol Jean Delewski, Kenneth Wayne (Judy) Burns and Joseph John (Renee) Biedenbach, Jr.; also survived by 13 grandchildren, 21 great- grandchildren. Preceded in death by two grandchildren and brother of the late Theresa, Edward and Mary Ellen. Friends received Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the GRIFFITH MORTUARY, INC., 5636 Brownsville Road, Broughton-Curry-South Park Twp. Funeral Prayer Friday 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth Church 10 a.m. The family requests donations in Joe's memory to "Our Campaign to Remember, Renew and Renovate", c/o St. Elizabeth Church, 1 Grove Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
