RICHARD J. "DOOKER"
Of North Huntingdon, age 90, on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Beloved husband of the late Ruth (Kandala) for nearly 60 years; loving father of Paula M. (the late James Minamyer) Shubock of Forest Hills, Arlene (Doug) Dodds of Leesburg, VA, Janet S. Shubock of Squirrel Hill, and Ruth Ann Creamer of Waldorf, MD; proud grandfather of Alexander R. Creamer of Maryland; brother of the late Gilbert Shubock; "stepfather" of Lynne (late David) Rokavec of New Alexandria. At age 18, Dick enlisted in the Marine Corps on December 9, 1941, two days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served in Panama before engaging in the Battles of Guam and Iwo Jima. As his Third Division of Marines prepared for the invasion of Japan, Japan surrendered in August, 1945. Thus, Dick served from the beginning of World War II and saw it through to the end. Dick was active in veterans organizations, serving as PA. State Commander-Western Region for the AMVETS and Commander of VFW
Post #781 in North Huntingdon. After World War II, Dick built, owned and operated Dooker's Bridge Auto Service in East Pittsburgh until 2002. He was an avid antique car collector and owned a 1950 Lincoln Cosmopolitan, a 1970 Cadillac and a 1973 Jaguar. Dick also was a self-taught pianist and was always a thoughtful problem solver. Dick's family gives special thanks to his caregiver, Brenda Lichauer, his 'sidekick', Edward "Bud" Persang, and also to the staff at PA Southwestern Veterans' Center. Friends welcome on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. LANIGAN FUNERAL HOME, 700 Linden Ave., East Pittsburgh, (412-824-8800).
