Age 89, a life-long resident of Coraopolis, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, from Villa St. Joseph. He was born in Coraopolis on March 15, 1924, to the late Zita Ivadeen (Merriman) and Thomas E. McConkey, Sr. Beloved husband for 65 and a half years to Dorothy (Deramo) McConkey; loving father of Thomas David McConkey (Nancy) Jacksonville, FL and Joyce "Jae" McConkey Davison of Manassas, VA; grandfather of Guy, Thomas (Jody), Justin (Kristi), Lauren (fiancé John) and Paige; great- grandfather of Thomas, Tea, Emily, and Violet; brother of Eunice Nasri (the late William) of Greentree and the late Howard (the late Nola) and Warren; brother-in-law of Ruth McConkey of Coraopolis; also many loved nieces and nephews. For 41 years, he was employed by Pittsburgh Forgings retiring as Storekeeper. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the Marshall Islands during WWII and on the USS Bon Homme Richard during the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post 402. He was a graduate of Pittsburgh School of Floral Design. Visitation Thursday 2-4, 7-9 at COPELAND'S CORAOPOLIS, 867 Fifth Ave., where service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. Rev. Karl McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Coraopolis Cemetery with full military honors. Donations may be made in his name to Wounded Warrior Project or to the Alzheimer's Foundation for research.
