84, died on Saturday, April 20, 2013, in Fort Wayne, IN. Born on October 29, 1928, in Mobile, AL, he was a son of Richard H. and Valena (Peters) Allen. He grew up in Pittsburgh and graduated from Peabody High School. Wilford was a radio operator in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated the Allen Barbershop in Pittsburgh before moving to Fort Wayne in 1979, where he worked for the Allen County Board of Health, and the Wayne Township Trustee office, from which he retired in 2006. Wilford loved football (especially the Steelers), and played semi-pro football for the Pittsburgh Cubs. In Fort Wayne, he helped coach a youth football team. Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Margaret Ankenbruck; sons, Jeffrey (Cynthia) Allen and Vincent (Susan) Allen of Pittsburgh, and Preston Allen of Fort Wayne; daughter, Lauren (Gregory) Jones of Avon, CT; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral Service is at 11 a.m. Friday at KLAEHN, FAHL AND MELTON FUNERAL HOME, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, IN, with calling one hour before.
