BAKER WILLIAM "BILL"
Entered this world on May 28, 1935, and departed to meet his maker, Jesus Christ, Feb. 12, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen (Appleton) Baker; also by his brother, John Baker (Ruth); and sisters-in-law, Stephanie "Cookie" Baker and Betty Appleton; and brother-in-law, Ray Appleton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine Baker; and his brother, George Baker. Friends received 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the THOMAS P. KUNSAK FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3552 California Ave. at Davis Ave. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Athanasius Church on Monday 11 a.m. In almost 79 years, he had a very fulfilling life. He attended and graduated from St. Agnes Grade School and later from North Catholic High School. He served his country by driving a tank in Germany for the US Army. While he was in the army, he became very active in sports and played football for a pickup team. After completion of his army tour, he continued his football experiences playing sandlot football against former NFL great, Johnny Unitas. He played slow-pitch softball in the Post Office League where he was a mail carrier until his retirement.
