Charles Morrow Grimstad (Chuck), 85, passed away peacefully at his home at Longwood at Oakmont surrounded by his family on Saturday June 9, 2018. He was born February 23, 1933 to the late R. Charles and C. Marguerite (McLenahan) Grimstad. He graduated from Avonworth High School (1950), Amherst College (1954) and Harvard Law School (1957). He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society at Amherst and served on the Harvard Law Editorial Board. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1959. In 1957 he was called to the bar, and in 1959, joined the firm of Kirkpatrick, Pomeroy, Lockhart & Johnson (now K&L Gates LLP). He retired as a partner in 1998, and continued as Of Counsel-Retired Partner through 2004. During his tenure as an Attorney, he was a member of the Pennsylvania Securities Commission and The Allegheny County Bar Association, and he had been a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association for more than 50 years. He served the community on many boards and committees. Most significantly, he was an active member of Calvary Episcopal Church, where he served as both Junior and Senior Warden on the Vestry. He was on the Board of Trustees of The Ellis School in Shadyside, and its Vice President. He was also a member of the Pittsburgh Golf Club and Duquesne Club. He loved music. He sang in the Glee Club in college, was a member of the Pittsburgh Oratorio Society, and attended the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concerts. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Best known for his keen moral sense, he also had an incisive wit and was a great debater. He loved to read and his knowledge was endless. He was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Julia Howard Grimstad, of Oakmont, PA; his 3 children, Katharine Quinn Grimstad of Pittsburgh, PA, Ann Lee Grimstad, PhD, (Blaise Ndjamen) of Monrovia, CA and Betsy Grimstad (Martin) Limpenny of London, England; and his sister, Christine Grimstad (Robert) Franklin of St. Simons Island, GA. He is also survived by his 7 adoring grandchildren; Christopher, Julia, Jacob, Carly, Kwayi Ndjamen, Madeleine and George Limpenny, and his 2 great-grandchildren, Brayden and Ryan. Friends and Relatives will be received on Friday, June 22, 2018, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., in the Pruitt Room, The Grandview, Longwood at Oakmont. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018, 10:30 a.m., at Calvary Episcopal Church, 315 Shady Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
