I just read of this on his wiki entry. Professor Cohen was a major and courageous fighter in the cause of human progress. His challenge to Ralph Nader to prove the latter actually believed plutonium oxide as "dangerous" as caffeine when the latter described it as the most toxic substance in the world should, In a world where the media were interested in reality not scare stories, have put paid to much of of the anti-nuclear scare industry on its own.

I once had a ten minute conversation with Mr. Cohen while I waited to see my doctor. I remember thinking at the time that he proved a point my daughter had made, that science teachers make the best teachers because they love the science. How could his students have ever been anything but excited when they witnessed his joy of physics. Grateful to have had those 10 minutes.

I knew Bernie exclusively from ballroom dancing. I would often see him and his longtime dancing partner, also "Bernie", at the Palisades in McKeepsort I found him to be a very modest person so it was some time before I realized how important his scientific contributions were. He spoke often of his children and I offer them and his companion my condolences.

I was so sad to read the obituary of Bernie Cohen. I had the privilege of working for him for 13 years when he was the Director of the Pitt Nuclear Physics Van de Graaff Accelerator Lab. He was such a kind and appreciative supervisor and I enjoyed working for him immensely. My sincere condolences to his children and family.

Condolences to the family. Bernie was a great colleague and friend, and a staunch defender of scientific integrity and honesty. Above all, he was a fine scientist and he will be missed by his many colleagues in the Health Physics Society. Sholom, Bernie.

Ann,
I'm so sorry to hear of Bernie's passing.
He was such a gifted man and a dedicated teacher at Osher. I often ran off his material for his classes and we would talk about his dancing.
My prayers are with youand the family,
Mary Cay Registrar of Osher at CMU
