Father Wellinger was a perfect and kind person to my three children enrolled at St. James school in Wilkinsburg and myself and my future husband.
my son Michael was a altar boy for Father Wellinger during the years 1983 to 1986 while we lived in Wilkinsburg. I was saddened to read of his death.
I believe he was a kind and honorable man and I will miss him.
sincerely
Dorothy Rhodes.

John was one of the first persons I met when I entered St. Meinrad in 1968. He was walking down the hall imitating a french horn playing "The Ride of the Valkyries". RIP!

Dear family and friends, John was an especially close friend to me, from early days as a student when I first began teaching, and through the years with less frequent contact but no less affection. I have thought of him often over the many past years since I last saw him in, I think, 1990. May he find the peace that too often eluded him in life.

"Papa John", you were like a surrogate dad to me and I will miss you deeply. You exposed me to the arts; plays, ballets, the symphony, and of course chess. I treasure all of those memories and our philosophical conversations. You continue to have a profound and positive influence on me now as much as you did during my formative years. I will miss you my friend...but you will continue to live on through the lives that you have so deeply touched. Thank you. Brian S. Sitko (Captain USMC, Clairton Pa)

We are so sad to read of the passing of John. We enjoyed his mentoring while being part of St. Wendelin's CYO. He married us in October 1974. He was a wonderful, friendly, vivacious man and he will always remain in our thoughts and prayers.

My deepest sympathy to John's family and friends. We lived across the street from each other on Balconade Drive and spent almost every day after school doing homework together. "Johnny" was one of my best friends in high school and I will always remember his brilliance, his talent, his humor and his friendship. May he rest in peace.

Sarah, please accept my prayers for John, and for you and your family on his death. I have many fond memories of how John influenced me when I was a "baby priest." Truly, may he rest in the peace of our risen Savior.
