There are few words to adequately describe Maureen. She was so special in every way. It's so hard to believe she has been gone 6 years. She is undoubtedly missed by anyone privileged enough to have known her.

To Maureen's Family,
You have my sympathy on Maureen's passing. I will keep you in my prayers. I met Maureen and David in the late 1980's when we were all students at Duquesne University. We would eat lunch together occasionally when we happened to be in the Union cafeteria at the same time. I remember hearing Maureen sing once or twice at school and she was very talented. May God comfort you.

My deepest condolences, Dave and Kathy. I'll always remember Maureen as a miniature Marianne. So glad I got to see and hear her sing in Shadyside about 20 years ago. I am deeply saddened. Take care.

David,
Fondly remembering many a pleasant afternoon jamming alongside Maureen in the practice rooms at Duquesne University music school. My brother, Grant, and I remain forever grateful for your gift of time in teaching us jazz piano. For us, watching you and Maureen perform together served as inspiration. Balcony days included. Our deepest sympathy to your
family. God's best to you always.

Maureen referred me to David for jazz piano lessons. Together they were a great music duo and I remember seeing them over at The Balcony many times. My thoughts and prayers are with you, David and your family. Hang in there, Budman.

No one could ever give Maureen a better tribute than David did. It moved most of the 400 to 500 people in church to tears. No one could ever deserve such a tribute more than Maureen. There are not enough like her, both professionally and spiritually. Her suffering is over, but the world is a poorer place without her. She will be missed by anyone and everyone who was privileged to know her.

May she rest in peace, and may God give comfort to those closest to her.

David and Kathy,
It's been hard to find the words to express our sorrow.
Maureen had an unstoppable spirit, she was witty, loving, friendly, so incredibly strong to fight the battle, so incredibly talented.
With her love of music and with a voice that be heard in heaven, a voice that stirred the soul-an energy that was contagious.
We have been so fortunate to have known Maureen- she touched everyone that she met.
We all have a bit of her inside us that will live on- an inspiration to us all to love and enjoy life.

To the Family of Maureen Budway -

Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of Maureen. I am deeply honored to have worked musically with Maureen and have her sing my music. Needless to say, she was extraordinary and one in a million. Better yet, in my last conversation with her I was able to tell her how much I loved and appreciated her and what an inspiration she was to everyone. David & Kathy,
My deepest sympathy to you. I first heard Maureen sing (with you, David, at the piano) at The Balcony many years ago. As a classical singer myself, I was amazed at the sheer beauty of her voice, her technique, and her ability to improvise. Then many years later, I had the honor of hearing her sing a Bellini operatic aria; it was flawless. She was a magnificent singer, teacher, and person. We were all blessed to know her and hear her sing. She will be sorely missed.

Spectacular talent. Whether she sang "Speak low," or
Dorabella's aria from "Cosi fan tutte," her commitment was profound and always tasteful. Her humanity, intelligence, unselfish willingness to share and her strength inspired all who knew her. many of us. "Mo," we are sad, and we will miss you. Rest peacefully. You are ever alive in our hearts.

My heart and deepest sympathy go out to the Budway family. Maureen was such a gifted singer. She and I performed many times together. Any group of performers who knew she was included within the group couldn't wait to be with her because she was always so energetic and funny, funny, funny! I will miss her greatly and never forget her faith, humility, and support to anyone or anything she involved herself in.

My deep felt condolences to Dave and family. Maureen was my voice teacher for 2 years at Duquesne University. I learned so much from her, and her teaching helped shape me into the performer I am today. I will always remember how her eyes lit up when we would see each other again after time had lapsed; the last time being at one of her Fairmont gigs a few years ago. She shared a special bond with each of her students. I rejoice in the fact that one day I will see her again. Rest easy, Maureen, until the day we sing together with the angels.

January 15, 2015

Those who knew Maureen will forever treasure her wonderful talent and lovely smile. The entire family have our deepest sympathy.

No one. No one sang Santa Baby as well as dear Maureen, including Eartha Kitt. She is a talent, stunning in depth and soul. And she was genuine. I met Maureen at the Washington County Wine and Jazz Festival; she was gracious, and kind.
She will be greatly missed.

January 15, 2015

Dave,
My deepest and most sincere condolences go out to you and your family. My first memory of Maureen was hearing her sing at Duquesne music school when I was a freshman, then relatively new to the experience of hearing live jazz. At the time, I was very impressed by her great presence, so admired her voice and talent, and was excited to become part of that wonderful world. Even after working with her on occasion over the years and hearing her sing often, that first impression never really faded. Those memories will never be lost.
Often we can't truly hear what people say,or what they sing, because who they are speaks more loudly. I believe that anyone who knew Mo knows this: she was a good soul. I sincerely hope the thought that she is now a greater soul brings you peace.

We are here for you. We will all keep Maureen very much alive by celebrating what she gave to each of us.

With a heavy heart, I extend my sympathy to the entire Budway family. Maureen was an exceptional artist and an exceptional human being. She was my voice teacher back in the late nineties, and I will always have wonderful memories of that time. Maureen taught me much and she had such wonderful patience with me. She later sang at my husband's and my 25th wedding anniversary...both at Church and at the reception. I believe Maureen to be the greatest jazz vocalist of her generation. Her presence in this world will be sorely missed. She made the world a better place.
