HERBERT K.
Age 88, formerly of Mt. Lebanon and Dobbs Ferry, NY. Beloved husband of the late Marie F. Mannion for 63 years; devoted father of Kevin Mannion of Austin, TX, Patrice (Joe) Duff of Upper St. Clair and Dennis (Pam) Mannion of Bloomfield Hills, MI; loving grandfather of Kyle, Corey and Kristen Duff, Ryan, Kellen and Tatum Mannion, Allison Norley and Kate Oliver; great-grandfather of Ryan and Emily Mannion and Henry Duff. Herb was an avid sports fan, loved to bowl and sing in the St. Anne Church choir. He was a 1950 graduate of Manhattan College. He worked as a buyer in the Department Store business for 38 years. Herb served in the Air Force in WWII in Italy, and was known and loved as a very straight forward, honest and kind person. He donated his body to medical science. To all of the Mannions, but especially to my wonderful friend, Patrice:
Getting on-line to read your Mom's obituary and knowing that your Dad was hospitalized...I just thought I'd check his name, too.
To my shock and dismay, his name appears here. Your Dad has been one of the kindest and gentlest souls on earth. He set a wonderful example for all of us of a loving parent and husband.
I'm quite sure his unwavering love of your Mom urged him on to his final journey. This year you will have two Christmas angels. God's blessings to all of you.

We are so very sorry to hear of Herb's passing. How much we enjoyed his company and lively discussions in choir and via email. (He and Marie were also friends of my parents, Ruth and the late Max Neely.) He was a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather...and a special friend. We hope that Herb and Marie are once again together forever.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.

Patrice, Kevin and Dennis:
Your Dad has been an inspiration to all of us and was a great example of keeping things in perspective.
Herb never put himself in front of his family or friends. I do not think that I ever heard him say I did this or that other than maybe a basic home repair of some kind. He only thought and talked about others...I was always very impressed at how he kept an even keel....I later realized that he was really great at ignoring the nonsense and rising above it. Herb was very kind and pleasant. He was a Great Man, Father, Grandfather,
Great Grandfather and we will miss him very much. Love Joe, Patrice and the Duff Family.
