LaVerne F. Haines, 80, of Bethlehem Township, passed away Friday, June 17, 2005 in St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. She and her husband George F. Haines Jr. celebrated their 53rd anniversary in March. Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Ida (Emery) Francis. She attended the University of Pittsburgh. LaVerne worked as an Executive Secretary for Equitable Life Insurance Co. in Pittsburgh for 11 years until 1953 and more recently was a secretary at Moravian House #1 in Bethlehem. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bethlehem where she was a camp counselor, church clerk for 9 years, was a member of Dr. Mary's Circle, Sunday School Teacher, and played piano for the Spanish Congregation at Church. She was a former vice-president of the PTA and East Hills Middle School Band. She was on the Board of Directors for the local chapter of Meals on Wheels. She was active in many other volunteer activities. Survivors: husband; son, George F. Haines, III of Gillette, WY, daughter, Hollis Kent of Lower Nazareth Township; six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother; Ralph Francis, Jr. Memorial Service was held Wednesday at 10 am in First Baptist Church, 3235 Linden St., Bethlehem. Calling hours were from 9 am until time of service. Interment was private at Windfield Cemetery, Windfield, PA. Arrangements by LONG FUNERAL HOME, Bethlehem.
