ALAN JOHN "AJ"
After a short life of 14 weeks, with his parents Marci and Kirk at his side, on Sunday, June 26, 2011. Dear brother of Rose Marie Highfield; beloved grandson of Alan and Peggy Highfield, John and Barbara Toth; great-grandson of Rose and the late John Toth, Stella and Stanley Hanzel; loving nephew of Jennifer Highfield, Melody and Ray McKenna, and Michelle and Brian Leonard; and cousin of Gavin, Kelsi, Meadow and Summer. His brave little soul has touched numerous lives, and will never be forgotten. Family and friends received Wednesday, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the SCHEPNER -McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 165 Noble Ave., Crafton, where the Angel's Blessing service will be held at 12 noon Friday.

I am deeply saddened over the passing of A.J. He was such a special little boy and touched the hearts of so many people. I am glad I got to spend time with him. It was an honor to get to work with AJ and to spend my last 2 1/2 months in the NICU with him and the rest of your family. I pray that the pain will fade but the memories will last. He was definitely a special "butterfly" baby.

I was blessed to have spent several hours holding A.J. when I returned to work and was recovering from my surgery. I know that A.J. joins the angels in heaven who look down upon me as I try to do my best in working with my patients in the NICU every night. May God give you comfort in your time of need.
